Leading change: Because I am a Girl clubs
The Because I am a Girl clubs are perfect for anyone who believes girls’ rights are human rights! By starting a club, girls can help create change in their school, community and around the world! Members of Because I am a Girl clubs:
- Learn about the challenges and obstacles girls face in Canada, and globally, with engaging downloadable resources.
- Share with their peers, community, and school their knowledge about the challenges girls face. By raising awareness, the clubs help inspire and motivate others to pay attention and take action.

Inspiring youth: The #PlanforChange movement
Plan Canada’s youth movement, #PlanforChange, works to engage young people across Canada – girls and boys – in global development. Through a wide variety of programs, including the Youth Advisory Council, Youth Journalists, and the Spread the Net Student Challenge, girls and boys are getting the chance to spearhead initiatives, speak out about issues that matter to them and make their opinions count!
Speaking out: Because I am a Girl Speakers Bureau
The Because I am a Girl Speakers Bureau (GSB) gives girls across Canada between the ages of 14-22, who are passionate about human rights and social justice, the opportunity to be advocates for the Because I am a Girl initiative. Through workshops, GSB members gain the communication skills to speak out about the issues impacting girls, and apply their skills by speaking on behalf of Because I am a Girl at events in their local communities.
Empowering agents of change: Strong Girls, Strong World project
Through the Strong Girls, Strong World project, Plan Canada, YMCA Canada and YWCA Canada are working in partnership to implement 10 young women and girl-led projects across Canada.
